The former No. 1 overall pick has reportedly narrowed his choices to two teams and expects to be ready by next season’s opener.

After being out of the NBA since December 2009, former No. 1 overall pick Greg Oden is getting closer and closer to a comeback.

According to a report from Jeff Goodman of CBS Sports, who covered Oden when he was a freshman star at Ohio State, Oden has narrowed his choices to the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat and expects to be ready by the start of the 2013 season.

The 7'1 285 center played in only 82 games for the Portland Trail Blazers before a devastating series of knee injuries forced him away from the game. However, after spending the last few years rehabilitating away from the game, Oden is ready to give it one last shot.

Cleveland could offer him more money as well as a chance to stay closer to home in Ohio, while Miami would give him the opportunity to compete for a championship.

Either way, a player once well-regarded enough in NBA circles to be taken ahead of Kevin Durant could have a huge impact on the balance of power in the East ... if he can stay healthy.
