Yet, right under everyone's noses is the team that we all love to ignore. The Spurs, who are 18-3 in their last 21 games, have moved their record to 37-11.
And while San Antonio has become an offensive juggernaut in the last few seasons, this version of the Spurs seems to have refound their defense. They’re ranked 3rd in defensive rating in 2013 after finishing in tenth in 2012.
Tiago Splitter, their 3rd-year big man from Brazil, has finally become comfortable in San Antonio's system, giving them some much needed size and athleticism next to Tim Duncan. Duncan, meanwhile, has found the Fountain of Youth, posting a PER of 24.5 and returning to the All-Star Game after missing it for the first (!!) time in his career last season.
And while home-court advantage wasn't enough for them to overcome the Thunder in last year's WCF, the Spurs would undoubtedly rather have it than not if they have to face the franchise built in their own image again this season.
