Trey Burke injury: Burke says timetable is 4-6 weeks, disputes prior report

Trey Burke broke his finger during the preseason and was expected to miss two months at minimum, but he gave his own update with a much shorter timetable.

Trey Burke, the Utah Jazz's 2013 NBA Draft lottery selection, broke his finger on October 12 during the first quarter of a preseason game against the Los Angeles Clippers. He is expected to miss 8-to-12 weeks, digging into the start of the Jazz's season. Not so fast though, according to the broken-fingered man himself, who tweeted that his timetable is actually 4-to-6 weeks and he was unaware of who "made up" the "unreasonable" rumor:

The initial report suggested that Burke’s agent told Desert News report Jody Gennesy the timetable was at least eight weeks, but he has since corrected his mistake and cites that an “NBA source” gave him the information:

Burke is scheduled to have surgery Tuesday and, if he does not require pins in his finger, a 4-to-6 week recovery seems reasonable, according to Gennesy. The Jazz are expected to give an official estimated timetable after the procedure.

Either way, it looks like the Jazz will be without Burke for at least a month. The team is thin at point guard with John Lucas III expected to handle starter duties while Scott Machado and Lester Hudson cover backup minutes. Both Hudson and Machado are on non-guaranteed contracts.
