Carmelo Anthony hasn't yet tested the free agent market in his 11-year career but that may change according to a story. In an article that came out on Oct. 15 the New York Knicks superstar told Rafi Kohan of The New York Observer that he wants to test the free agent market.

“I want to be a free agent,” Anthony tells me, as our cigars burn close to the nub. “I think everybody in the NBA dreams to be a free agent at least one time in their career. It’s like you have an evaluation period, you know. It’s like if I’m in the gym and I have all the coaches, all the owners, all the GMs come into the gym and just evaluate everything I do. So yes, I want that experience.”
Testing the free agent waters doesn’t mean that Anthony will leave the Knicks -- he went on to tell Kohan that he “came to New York for a reason” -- but it does open up speculation about his future. He has a nearly $24 million player option for the 2014-2015 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2015-2016, according to Rotoworld.
The six-time NBA All Star may not leave New York in the coming summer, but it’s certainly not out of the question. Anthony didn’t want to talk about free agency a little over two months ago. Anthony’s interview with the Observer very well could have happened months ago, even before the “I-Dont-Want-To-Talk-About-Free-Agency” story came out.
