NBA preseason schedule: Spurs, Heat face each other for first time since Finals

The Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs tip off at 7:30 ET on NBA TV. Oh, and other teams play too.

USA TODAY Sports

The Spurs will travel to Miami to meet the Heat Saturday night for the first time since the 2013 NBA Finals. While it’s only a preseason game and there is nothing riding on the matchup, one has to think there will at least be some animosity between the two squads who duked it out less than five months ago for the NBA title.

The 2013 Finals -- which finished up nearly four months ago -- was an emotional roller coaster for both teams and those emotions will probably return in tonight’s preseason matchup. Spurs players will see the right corner where Ray Allen nailed one of the most important shots in NBA history. Heat players will remember how close they were to letting the championship hardware slip from their grasp. In the end, it’s still just a preseason game and that’s important to remember but it’ll feel like a lot more.

At 10:30 ET, things will switch pace as the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers take the court in a game that will be a lot less emotional than the Heat-Spurs rematch. Injuries may derail this otherwise interesting match up as neither Nate Robinson or Kenneth Faried practiced Friday due to hamstring strains, while Darrell Arthur is listed as a game-time decision.

Beyond that, we have three other games Saturday night: Washington at New Orleans, Dallas at Charlotte, and Indiana at Cleveland. Indiana at Cleveland is the most intriguing of the group. It makes for good television any time Kyrie Irving takes the floor and the Pacers -- freshly stocked with a deep bench -- are fun to watch.
