Chris Paul says he could see himself retiring early

Clippers point guard Chris Paul reveals he has already thought about the next phase of his life in HBO interview.

Chris Paul is fresh off signing a five-year contract, but he is already talking about retirement. The Los Angeles Clippers point guard recently sat down with Mary Carillo for an interview for HBO's Real Sports and revealed that he has envisioned stepping away from the game before he has to, via Ben Golliver of The Point Forward.

“I love to play basketball more than anybody,” the 28-year-old Paul said. “I’m serious, nobody loves to play basketball more than I do, but I could honestly see myself maybe stopping a little early or maybe premature just because I hate to miss anything with my kids. I would hate for my kids to recall those special moments in their life, and I wasn’t there.”

Given his age and contract situation, “stopping a little early” likely does not mean retirement is anything close to imminent in this case. There should be plenty of Paul highlights in Los Angeles’ future.

The full feature about the family man is scheduled to air Tuesday night on HBO.
