In anticipation of the upcoming NBA season, Nike Basketball released a new commercial Sunday starring LeBron James. The commercial is titled “Training Day” and is just under two minutes in length.
New LeBron James Nike commercial shows him training with Miami
LeBron is Forrest Gump.

In the spot, LeBron takes on a Forrest Gump-like role, with a growing legion of fans following his every move as he trains around the city of Miami. The commercial is very celebratory in nature, from the music highlighting the fact that LeBron is a champion to his general demeanor throughout.
It’s interesting to compare this new commercial to other ads LeBron has done for Nike. Back when LeBron was in Cleveland, the ads often went for the comedic angle, whether it was the puppet commercials or “The LeBrons.“
Then there was the infamous “What should I do?” ad made after LeBron took his talents to South Beach. That commercial was very reflective and featured LeBron by himself, speaking to the criticism he took for bailing on his hometown.
Now, LeBron is more at peace with himself, and the horde of fans represents how he has won back many supporters thanks to his success on the court.
