Chris Bosh says you should learn how to code

Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh spells “winning better” than you or I do.

USA TODAY Sports

Chris Bosh is having a pretty good 2013-14 season already and we're only two games in. OK, fine, so he and the Miami Heat were dealt a shocking defeat by rookie point guard Michael Carter-Williams and the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, but other than that things are swell.

First, Bosh made headlines after Tuesday's season-opening blowout win over the Chicago Bulls by reminding the world that he's the king of the photobomb. Then, on Thursday, Wired published an opinion piece penned by the power forward about the value of learning how to code.

It’s pretty awesome that Bosh is encouraging kids to use their computers for more than just silly Internet videos. (Not that he’d know anything about those.) This isn’t the first time he’s talked about this -- he appeared in a video from Code.org earlier this year to tell the world he was in a computer club called the Wizkids:

Bosh refers to the Wizkids again in his Wired piece, and he says that seeing himself in the above video “was one of the coolest moments of my life.” You should read the entire thing, because it actually has a positive message for young people, but -- SPOILER ALERT -- the end of the piece is the absolute best:

I’m the Miami Heat player with “1” on my team jersey back. For me winning isn’t “winning” - it’s 01110111 01101001 01101110 01101110 01101001 01101110 01100111 (that’s W-I-N-N-I-N-G in binary code).

Perfect.
