Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams will miss the team's preseason opener against the Washington Wizards while recovering from an ankle injury, Mike Mazzeo of ESPN New York reports. Williams will also likely miss the team's next game against the Detroit Pistons.
Deron Williams injury: Nets star likely to miss first two preseason games
Williams’ offseason injury hasn’t healed just yet.

Williams suffered a sprained ankle and bone bruise to his right ankle while working out in Utah this offseason. He’s expected to be ready for the beginning of the regular season, but the Nets are being cautious with their star guard during the exhibition schedule.
After surging towards the end of the 2012-13 season, Williams couldn't lead the Nets past the first round of the postseason. The team significantly bolstered its roster this offseason, adding the likes of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Andrei Kirilenko. A healthy Williams may ultimately be most important for the team's title chances, though.
For the time being, free agent pickup Shaun Livingston will likely start in Williams' place.
