Dante Exum leaning toward draft, per report

It appears Australian prospect Dante Exum is likely to be in the 2014 draft class.

Stefan Postles

Australian guard Dante Exum is currently projected to be a top-five pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, assuming he declares himself eligible. The 18-year-old hasn’t officially decided whether he’s going to go to college or straight to the NBA, but he is “strongly leaning toward” the NBA according to ESPN’s Chad Ford.

Hearing from sources that he and his family are now strongly leaning toward skipping college and having him go straight into the NBA. Some NBA guys think he should be the No. 1 pick. Will be interesting to see how they feel if the college guys all live up to the hype while Exum is just working out in Australia.

This shouldn’t be much of a surprise. Assuming Exum’s draft stock stays the same, it’s easy to foresee him making the jump to the pros. He’s shone in international competition and impressed at the NIke Hoop Summit. If he forgoes college, he will likely spend most of the next few months bulking up to face the stronger players he’ll encounter in the NBA.

With the NCAA season underway, let’s see how the mock drafts change with the other lottery picks playing against the college-level competition Exum might avoid.
