Carmelo Anthony’s game-tying 3 waved off after late foul

With the Rockets up three and little more than five seconds remaining, Houston faced an interesting decision about whether to foul on Thursday night. The Rockets have avoided the strategy this season and suffered because of it. So this time Houston's coach Kevin McHale had his players foul to prevent a three attempt.

But sometimes the call isn’t so easy.

The referees ruled the foul came before the shot and did not call Anthony's shot in continuation. Thus, Anthony did not get the three, but instead got two free throws. Knicks fans were incensed and/or shocked.

The call remained, and the Rockets went on to win, 109-106, after the Knicks had to foul to extend the game. Anthony finished with 45 points on 30 shots, going 2-for-4 on three-point attempts.
