Charles Barkley discusses race in the context of Matt Barnes and Richie Incognito

The outspoken commentator has thoughts on why Barnes shouldn’t apologizing for the word he used to described his teammates.

The best thing about Inside the NBA is unfiltered Charles Barkley. He is wrong a lot, especially about basketball topics. But he’s always entertaining and insightful in a way that is usually pretty different from conventional talking points.

So when Barkley defended Matt Barnes' use of the n-word on Thursday night, it was worth watching. Barkley explains that he's opposed to "white America" defining how he can talk to or about his black friends. He also says it was obvious that Barnes' infamous tweet was directed primarily at teammate Blake Griffin, which is a common perception. That leads Chuck to explain why he feels Griffin needs to start meeting hard hits with hard hits.

Where Barkley goes off the rails, in my opinion, is when he connects the situation to that of Richie Incognito and makes this hilarious/sad statement.

“This national debate that going on right now makes me uncomfortable that regular people try to act like they have the courage to play pro sports. They don’t have that.”

Let’s just hope Chuck misspoke on that one, because it’s absurd.
