Brad Stevens denies Rajon Rondo trade rumors

Head coach Brad Stevens says he doesn’t put any stock into trade rumors involving the Celtics’ injured floor general.

Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens denied that the team is trying to trade star point guard Rajon Rondo on Monday. Speaking to reporters after practice in Houston, he referred to the talk of trading Rondo as a rumor and something that hasn't been discussed with him, via the Boston Herald's Steve Bulpett:

“I think until it’s something validated on the inside, then I would say I don’t even pay attention to rumors,” Stevens said. “Nothing, to me, has really been discussed.

“I’m not a part of that group, with regard to making decisions like those, so I just focus on coaching the team. The one thing you can’t get caught up in, and I lived this in college, is not everything you read has any validity.”

...

“I think it’s all speculative talk right now, and it’s probably going to continue to ramp up as teams get more into their season, I would guess. You guys know that a lot more than I do.”

Since joining the organization, Stevens has been vocal about his appreciation for Rondo’s game and his desire to coach him. Rondo is still recovering from surgery to repair his torn ACL, and Stevens said that there has been progress but his return would not be “very, very soon,” via the Boston Globe’s Baxter Holmes.

Celtics president Danny Ainge has also denied the rumors, sticking to his assertion that Rondo is the team’s main building block.
