Charlotte was already bringing back the Hornets nickname next year and now it will go back to the purple and teal color scheme popularized by the Hornets in the 1990s, according to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer. Bobcats management discussed why the team will make this change:
Charlotte Hornets to bring back purple and teal color scheme next season, per report
When the Bobcats become the Hornets next season, a familiar color scheme will return as well.

“... There seemed to be an overwhelming desire to pay homage to the legacy of the Hornets, from their time here before,” Bobcats President Fred Whitfield said. “We listened to our fans, and that’s what led us in this direction.”
This time around, the purple and teal color scheme “will be accented by black and light shades of gray and blue,” reports Bonnell. A formal announcement is expected Sunday.
Charlotte is working to sell Hornets gear but there are still complications with the New Orleans Pelicans. The Pelicans used the Hornets nickname just seven months ago and the Bobcats are trying to find a balance between selling Hornets memorabilia while not getting in the way of the Pelicans’ switch in nicknames.
Bonnell reports that the franchise is budgeting about $4 million to changing the arena from the Bobcats to the Hornets over the next 11 months. He writes that the “big things include resurfacing the game and practice courts and deciding what replaces Rufus as the team mascot.”
