Derrick Williams trade rumor: Deal reportedly ‘close’

The Minnesota Timberwolves are reportedly close to dealing former No. 2 overall pick Derrick Williams.

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Derrick Williams' name is in the rumor mill yet again. While this isn't exactly new information, on Tuesday Dan Berreiro of KFAN 100.3 reported that Williams' tenure in Minnesota is "99.9" percent over:

After that came a few possible destinations, with the Utah Jazz, Sacramento Kings, New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets listed by 1500 ESPN's Darren Wolfson:

Multiple reports out of Brooklyn indicate that the Nets might not be involved. The Kings are most interested in Williams, according to NetsDaily:

Williams’ Wolves future has been up in the air for some time. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 draft has shown flashes of his talent in Minnesota, but has never been an ideal fit in Rick Adelman’s corner offense.

Williams slimmed down in the off-season in order to play the small forward position, but it hasn’t helped so far this year. He is averaging 4.9 points and 2.4 rebounds in under 15 minutes per game while shooting 35 percent from the field. He’s also received a few DNP-CD’s. It feels like he needs a fresh start.

For Williams’ sake, let’s hope he gets traded to a team that will give him decent playing time. Preferably one that doesn’t have a superstar at the power forward spot.
