Dion Waiters trade rumors: Cavs shopping 2nd-year guard, according to report

No deal is imminent, but the Cleveland Cavaliers have discussed a trade involving Dion Waiters with the New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers and Chicago Bulls.

The Cleveland Cavaliers appear ready to move on from a future that includes second-year guard and fourth overall pick Dion Waiters. According to ESPN's Chris Broussard, the Cavs are actively shopping Waiters and have discussed potential trades with the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers.

Broussard reports that Cleveland expressed interest respective interest with the three teams in Luol Deng, Iman Shumpert and Evan Turner.

While no deal is imminent, Broussard added that Waiters is open to being traded after falling somewhat into the doghouse of coach Mike Brown. Waiters is averaging 13 points, three rebounds and 2.3 assists per game this season but has been coming off the bench behind undrafted rookie Matthew Dellavedova.

Waiters missed two games this season because of a flu-like illness, according to the Cavs. That came after reports surfaced of an altercation during a players-only meeting. Waiters needed to defend himself and deny the rumor of a physical altercation when he returned.

Broussard reported Wednesday that Waiters was involved in an argument with forward Tristan Thompson in the players-only meeting -- not Kyrie Irving, as initially speculated -- but it didn't come to blows.

Fear the Sword: More on the Cavs

The teams mentioned by Broussard all have a reason to have interest in Waiters. Chicago is in great need of a perimeter scoring punch after losing Derrick Rose for the season because of his meniscus tear. New York is struggling mightily with a roster limited by age and injuries, and the Sixers are in rebuilding mode while hoping to acquire young talent.

Update: The Cavs are denying the rumors:
