Dwight Howard on free throw shooting: ‘I might have to keep singing Beyonce’

Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard said he felt like he was Mark Price at the free throw line when he was singing Beyonce in his head.

Dwight Howard uncharacteristically made six straight free throws on Saturday night against the Utah Jazz and credited his shooting to the music playing in his head, via the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen:

“I shot like I was Mark Price,” Howard said. “I had a slower song tonight in my head. Last night I had a fast song and I was going too fast. Tonight I had a couple slow jams playing in my head and I did pretty good. so I’m going to keep it up.”

...

“The playlist was some Tank, some Tyrese and some Usher and some Beyonce,” Howard said. “And on the Beyonces I hit all net so I might have to keep singing Beyonce.”

Fair enough. I mean, whatever works. By all means, if Dirk Nowitzki sings David Hasselhoff to himself at the free throw line to get centered then Howard should get his Tyrese on if he feels like it’s helping.

The big man only shot 5-for-10 on Monday against the Los Angeles Clippers, though, so it makes you wonder what was playing in his head. Perhaps the booing fans at the Staples Center drowned Beyonce out.
