Steve Nash still feeling ill effects of broken leg last season

The 17-year veteran hasn’t felt the same since last season’s injury

Steve Nash hasn't been the same player in Los Angeles that fans were accustomed to in Phoenix. He's been constantly hampered by injuries and has taken several steps back physically.

Some of that can be attributed his age, but Nash, 39, told the LA Times that his physical issues stem from the broken leg that sidelined him in the second game of last season.

“I’m still fighting things that happened because of the broken leg,” Nash said. “I still feel that almost every day, all over. It’s not just in that spot. The whole system in a way is different now, it’s just a little bit more sensitive.”

Nash was hampered throughout the preseason by neck and ankle soreness. This really shouldn’t come as a big surprise: he’s 39 years old, will turn 40 in February and has 17 years of NBA wear and tear on his body.

He did tell the Times that he was “extremely optimistic” that he could be a solid contributor this season.

Sunday night against the Hawks, Nash registered 13 points and six assists in 29 minutes of playing time. The Lakers would be happy to get that type of production the rest of the season from their aging point guard.

In 50 appearances last year, Nash averaged 13 points and seven assists on 43.8 percent shooting from three-point range.
