Steve Blake injury: Lakers guard out at least 6 weeks with elbow injury

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Blake will be out of the lineup for a minimum of six weeks, the team announced Thursday. Blake has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.

Earlier this month it was reported that Blake was playing through a hyper-extended right elbow, but clearly he and the team didn't know about the torn ligament. Playing through pain, he has had to log heavy minutes for the Lakers because of injuries to their two other point guards, Steve Nash and Jordan Farmar. The injury occurred in a Nov. 26 game against the Washington Wizards, according to Mike Trudell of Lakers.com.
Los Angeles head coach Mike D'Antoni called Blake one of the toughest players he's ever coached, per Trudell. In his absence, D'Antoni will start Kobe Bryant and Jodie Meeks in the backcourt. The plan is essentially for Bryant to play point guard, with Xavier Henry backing him up. Should be fun.
The Lakers will not look to immediately add a point guard to the roster, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN LA.
Blake is averaging 9.8 points, 7.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 32 minutes per game this season.
