The Houston Rockets have put down the phones and are resigned to keeping center Omer Asik on the roster for the time being, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski and ESPN's Marc Stein. Though there were deeply involved talks with teams such as the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers, it's become apparent to Houston's front office that dealing Asik is trickier than expected.

After ongoing talks between the Houston Rockets and trade partners fell through, it appears the franchise will be forced to retain its center for now.

Teams were apparently put off by Asik’s contract, which runs through next season before he becomes an unrestricted free agent, Stein reports. Additionally, none of the discussed deals have whet the Rockets’ appetite enough to pull the trigger.
Asik has been pushing for a trade after the Rockets acquired center Dwight Howard this summer, but it's proven more difficult than expected for one of the league's best rebounding centers.
Houston and general manager Daryl Morey set a self-imposed Thursday deadline to trade the big man, which would allow the franchise to trade the incoming pieces before the NBA’s Feb. 21 trade deadline. Players acquired by trade cannot be traded by their new teams for two months.
