Jason Kidd to Lawrence Frank: ‘I’m the coach of this [expletive] team!’

More details on the demise of the Jason Kidd/Lawrence Frank coaching relationship have emerged.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

It's abundantly clear now that the Jason Kidd/Lawrence Frank partnership was far from the home run it was expected to be. In fact, it seems like it was doomed from the start. Details about the battle of egos between the head coach and his now-former assistant are coming out on what seems like a daily basis, and the latest update paints an ugly picture of a previously-reported dustup between the two in a Brooklyn Nets coaches meeting, via David Aldridge of NBA.com:

The denouement came in the now well-reported blowup Kidd had with Frank, where Kidd, according to a source, told Frank: “Sit the (bleep) down! I’m the coach of this (13-letter word) team! When you’re on the bench, don’t (bleeping) move!”

Frank did as he was told. Other coaches playing the Nets thought he was ill, he was so quiet during recent games.

Before that argument, Frank had been vocal in practice and on the bench. Frank was reportedly displeased with Kidd's decision to have assistant coach Joe Prunty coach the team while Kidd served a suspension for a DUI at the beginning of the season.

As you no doubt know by now, Frank was “re-assigned” last week and is no longer present at Nets practices or on the bench during games. In seeking a settlement of his six-year, $6 million contract, Frank has hired David Cornwell, the same attorney who represents Alex Rodriguez and Jonathan Martin, per Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

So much for that whole coaching mentorship thing.
