NBA All-Star Game 2013: Joakim Noah could sit out due to plantar fasciitis

All-Star Weekend could provide Bulls center Joakim Noah with some badly needed rest as he deals with plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

USA TODAY Sports

Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah could miss the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday while he deals with plantar fasciitis in his right foot, Bryan Crawford of NBC Chicago reports.

Making his first ever appearance as an All-Star, there’s a solid possibility that Noah won’t even be able to take the court as he tries to get healthy for the remainder of the season. He’s already missed games due to the injury, which has been an ongoing issue throughout his career, and could badly use the extra time off.

“It’s pretty important. It’s not that important, but it’s something that I want to do,” Noah said of the All-Star Game. “But I also have to do what’s right for the team. There’s obviously a bigger picture than playing in the All-Star Game.”

For a player known to put winning above all else, that bigger picture obviously involves the Bulls making a major championship run this spring with Derrick Rose back on the roster. Noah and fellow All-Star Luol Deng have taken on extra workloads in Rose's absence, but they'll need to save some energy to make some noise come April.

While the news is, “a total bummer,” as SB Nation’s Bulls blog Blog a Bull puts it, it’s hard to get too upset about a relatively meaningless exhibition game.

The All-Star Game begins at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday from Toyota Center in Houston, broadcast by TNT.
