Danny Granger injury: Pacers star out for at least one more week

The Pacers won’t get Danny Granger back until after the All-Star break as he deals with flu-like symptoms in addition to his injured knee.

Indiana Pacers small forward Danny Granger will likely make his season debut against the New York Knicks on Feb. 20 following the league's All-Star Weekend, Curt Cavin of the Indianapolis Star reports.

There was initially hope that Granger would be able to make it back for Wednesday night's match-up against the Charlotte Bobcats, but flu-like symptoms have limited the veteran in recent days. He's making significant progress with his knee injury, but the team understandably doesn't want to push him into action when he's ill.

While a prior report stated that Granger would ultimately decide whether or not he was ready to return on Wednesday, as SB Nation’s Pacers blog, Indy Cornrows, notes, it feels like nobody wanted to push the forward onto the court prematurely.

"We're hoping for right after the All-Star break, but again we'll see how this week of continuing to work goes for him," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said of Granger following the team's practice on Wednesday.

Indiana has survived this season without one of its best players thanks to arguably the best defensive work in the league, but Granger should be able to provide a much-needed boost to the team on offense. Paul George has shouldered a larger load so far this season, earning his first-ever All Star Game bid.
