Blazers trade rumors: J.J. Hickson isn’t drawing a first-round pick, apparently

The Blazers want to trade J.J. Hickson for a first-round pick. A report suggests that it isn’t going so well. Quelle surprise.

USA TODAY Sports

The Portland Trail Blazers picked up J.J. Hickson off of the bargain rack, literally: he was claimed off of waivers after the Sacramento Kings dismissed him at the 2012 NBA trade deadline. He played well as the season wound down and Portland ended up handing him a one-year, $4 million deal. He’s continued to play well this season, and now Portland would like to get something for him before he commands real money as a free agent.

How’s that going?

Can we call this the Lesson Of Petrie ‘11? Kings GM Geoff Petrie traded Omri Casspi and a protected first-round pick for Hickson just before the 2011 lockout began. And then waived Hickson in February because he’d been so awful. Friends: don’t trade first-round picks for J.J. Hickson. It can end only in sadness!
