Bobcats deal Hakim Warrick to Magic for Josh McRoberts

The two veteran big men were exchanged as part of a larger house-cleaning in Orlando.

Josh McRoberts and Hakim Warrick, two lightly-used veteran big men on the last year of their contracts, changed hands in the minutes before the trade deadline on Thursday, with Charlotte sending Warrick to Orlando in exchange for McRoberts.

Warrick, in his eighth year in the NBA, has played in only 27 games this season for the Bobcats, averaging 7 points and 3 rebounds on 40 percent shooting. McRoberts, in his sixth year out of Duke, was averaging 4 points and 3 rebounds a game on 39 percent shooting for the Magic this season.

Since neither player comes with any long-term salary obligations and neither team has any aspirations of contending for a playoff spot this season, the trade appears to have been made to see if a change of scenery makes sense for everyone involved.

For Orlando, the deal is part of an extremely busy trade deadline that saw them ship J.J. Redick out to Milwaukee in exchange for Tobias Harris, Doron Lamb and Beno Udrih.
