Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap are still with the Utah Jazz. Arguably the second-biggest non-trade of the day behind the Atlanta Hawks retaining forward Josh Smith, neither of the Utah big men were moved before the trade deadline on Thursday.
NBA trade deadline: Utah Jazz opt to stand pat
The Utah Jazz didn’t trade either Al Jefferson or Paul Millsap by Thursday’s trade deadline.
The Jazz's logjam in the frontcourt had rumors swirling that Jefferson or Millsap would be packing their bags. With younger players in Enes Kanter and Derrick Favors developing behind the two 28-year-old starters, Utah seemingly had good reason to get a return for one of them.
Both are in the final year of their contracts, and the Jazz will be unable to re-sign both of them and keep young wing Gordon Hayward down the road.
Jefferson had reportedly interested the Phoenix Suns and even the San Antonio Spurs were in the mix, according to Chris Sheridan.
Meanwhile, Millsap had more widespread rumors about him. The Brooklyn Nets had their widely-displayed package of Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks and a pick on the table. ESPN reported that the Los Angeles Clippers and Jazz talked about a swap of Millsap and Clippers point guard Eric Bledsoe, but Vinny Del Negro's team likewise went silent before the trade deadline. Chris Broussard also reported that Minnesota had interest in dealing second-year forward Derrick Williams for Millsap.
