Michael Heisley, who moved the Grizzlies to Memphis and owned them for more than a decade, has been hospitalized in Chicago after suffering a stroke, according to the Memphis Commercial-Appeal. Heisley apparently suffered the stroke after returning home from All-Star Weekend in Houston.

Michael Heisley, who bought the Grizzlies and moved them to Memphis before selling them last year, is in the hospital recovering from an apparent stroke.

The Commercial-Appeal also reports that Heisley, 75, has undergone a heart procedure within the past two years and has been working to shed weight to protect his long-term health. He sold the Grizzlies to an investor group led by Silicon Valley entrepreneur Robert Pera in 2012. Recently he has been rumored as having interest in buying the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Heisley, who was a member of the NBA’s billionaire club, made his fortune primarily in Chicago-area real estate. He was in place when the FedEx Forum was built and had a hand in getting assurances from Pera that the Grizzlies would remain in Memphis long-term. Heisley was at the helm for the start of the current string of success the Grizzlies are experiencing.
