The Omri Casspi era may be coming to an end in Cleveland. The Cavs are engaged in buyout talks with their fourth-year small forward before the March 1 deadline, according to a report from ESPN's Marc Stein, so that he would be eligible for this year's postseason.

The 24-year-old small forward has fallen out of favor in Cleveland, but if he’s released before midnight on Friday, he would still be eligible to play in the postseason.

Cleveland acquired Casspi from Sacramento two years ago, swapping him for J.J. Hickson in a grass is greener on the other side deal for both teams. However, after struggling to match his efficiency numbers with the Kings, he has steadily lost favor with coach Byron Scott.
He’s only played in 29 games this season, averaging four points and two rebounds on 37 percent shooting. He’s set to be a free agent at the end of the season, so the Cavs don’t have much of an incentive to keep him around over the last two months.
According to Stein, the Rockets, one of the most opportunistic teams in the NBA, are already poking around Casspi to see if he would make sense. Wherever he ends up, it will be his third team in four seasons, so he could find himself headed back overseas if he can't carve out a niche soon.
