Former Duke Blue Devils big man Shavlik Randolph hasn't played in a regular season NBA game since 2010, but the Boston Celtics have decided to sign the 6'10 forward to a 10-day contract, according to multiple reports. Randolph received his letter of clearance from the Chinese Basketball Association on Friday morning, and in anticipation of the move, he had already flown to Boston so he would be ready to participate in the team's morning shootaround on Friday, according to the original report from Real GM.

The Boston Celtics have agreed to terms with 29-year-old big man Shavlik Randolph on a 10-day contract. Randolph is reportedly already in Boston for the team’s morning shootaround on Friday.

The Celtics have been aggressively pursuing players on the open market to fill out their roster since Rajon Rondo joined Leandro Barbosa and Jared Sullinger on the injury list, and the Randolph signing is just the latest transaction in a string of peripheral moves.
Boston recently signed former first-round pick Terrence Williams to a 10-day deal, and they are currently waiting on clearance from the Chinese Basketball Association to consummate a deal with D.J. White.
At 29 years old, Randolph will be looking to jump start an NBA career that never quite materialized during his time with Philadelphia 76ers, Portland Trail Blazers, Miami Heat and Washington Wizards. In 95 career games he has averaged 2.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. He is an inefficient scorer for a big man (49.0 percent true shooting), but he is a solid offensive rebounder (15.1 offensive rebound rate) that could help the Celtics shore up their No. 29 ranking in that area.
The Celtics (30-27) are currently the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference playoff bracket.
