Metta World Peace injury: Lakers forward tears meniscus

The news comes as the Lakers struggle to get back to full strength after a litany of injuries have struck each member of the starting rotation. World Peace is flying back to Los Angeles to be further evaluated and will likely miss the remainder of the Lakers' three-game road trip that includes games against the Minnesota Timberwolves and Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday and Thursday.

Asked about the injury after the loss in the Bay Area, head coach Mike D'Antoni sounded optimistic before an official diagnosis came out. World Peace, however, was non-committal in his own analysis. There is no word as to a timetable for return, but with 11 games remaining and the Lakers fighting for their playoff lives, it is sure to be a devastating blow.
