NBA Playoff Standings: Knicks stay hot, Bulls get big win over Heat out East

The Knicks stacked their sixth straight win on Wednesday, but the shocker of the night came when the Bulls ended Miami’s historic winning streak.

Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bulls surprisingly ended the Miami Heat’s 27-game winning streak on Wednesday night, but behind the scenes the New York Knicks earned their sixth straight victory -- which is now the longest active streak in the NBA.

New York has recovered nicely from its post-all-star-break swoon, and with a recent win over Memphis the Knicks kept pace with the Pacers (who knocked off the Rockets). That's all the Knicks have to do at this point, as they own the second-best conference record in the East and take the No. 2 spot in the playoff bracket by virtue of the secondary tiebreaker with Indiana.

The Bulls have battled through the disappointment of playing without Derrick Rose and pulled out three consecutive wins to keep pace with the Atlanta Hawks for the No. 5 spot. Again, the Bulls own the better conference record, so the Hawks get pushed down to No. 6 in the event of a tie.

Miami wasn't the only East team to lose on Wednesday. The Milwaukee Bucks failed to take advantage of a game against the Sixers and, thanks to a last-second layup by Jeff Green to clinch a win for the Celtics, the Bucks fell 2.5 games behind Boston for the No. 7 seed.
