Nuggets reportedly interested in Kyle Korver in free agency

The Nuggets could be gearing up to pursue sharpshooter Kyle Korver in free agency this summer.

The Denver Nuggets will make current Atlanta Hawks sharpshooter Kyle Korver one of their top targets during free agency this summer, according to Christopher Dempsey of the Denver Post.

An unrestricted free agent after the season, Korver will likely be in heavy demand given his ability to spot up and knock down shots from practically anywhere on the court. One of the league’s elite shooters for a decade, he also brings length and effort on the defensive end despite a lack of top-level athleticism.

Though Korver can't bring the speed or strength of Nuggets players like Ty Lawson or Andre Iguodala, Korver, "moves without the ball as good as anybody in the NBA," Denver coach George Karl tells Dempsey.

Currently making $5 million this season, Korver will likely be able to command a multi-year contract during the offseason given the increased prominence of the three-point shot in recent years. Over his 10-year career, Korver has made nearly 42 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc.

This season, Korver is averaging 11.5 points and 4.1 rebounds in 31.5 minutes per game. His scoring figures are the highest they have been since the 2006-07 season.

The Nuggets face the Hawks on Monday night in the second match-up of the season between the teams. A preview of the game can be found over at Denver Stiffs, SB Nation’s Nuggets blog.
