Mo Williams could return from finger injury Wednesday

The Jazz could have Mo Williams back Wednesday night following a lengthy absence. After months of Jamaal Tinsley at the point, his return should be a nice boost for Utah.

Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

Utah Jazz point guard Mo Williams could return from a thumb injury for Wednesday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Bill Oram of the Salt Lake City Tribune reports. The veteran is being labeled a game-time decision for the match-up, which would be his first since Dec. 22.

Acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers before the season, Williams played well in his time as Utah's starting point guard earlier this season. In 24 games before the thumb injury, he averaged 12.9 points and 6.7 assists in 31.4 minutes per game.

UPDATE: Williams will start vs. the Cavaliers.

While there wasn’t a timetable for Williams’ return as recently as last week, his status has apparently improved a good deal recently. He’s been fully participating in contact practices this week, so playing Wednesday is a possibility if his thumb responds well before tip off.

In his absence, Jamaal Tinsley has been filling in, but the former longtime Pacer can't provide the perimeter scoring punch of Williams. In 29 games since Williams went down, Tinsley has averaged just 4.3 points on 38 percent shooting with five assists in 22 minutes per game.
