Steve Nash injury: Lakers PG will not play against Mavericks

Hamstring and hip issues will keep L.A.‘s starting PG out of a game with huge playoff implications.

After playing only two minutes in their last game and sitting out of practice on Monday, Steve Nash has been ruled out of the Lakers' game against the Mavericks on Tuesday. While Nash's absence isn't unexpected, it's still a big blow for an L.A. team that desperately needs a win.

The race for the No. 8 seed out West has gotten intense in the last few weeks, with the Jazz moving a half game ahead of the Lakers on Monday. Dallas, meanwhile, has caught fire and is now only 1.5 games behind L.A. As a result, the final meeting between the two teams this season has huge playoff implications for both.

Without Nash on Saturday, Mike D'Antoni gave Steve Blake most of the minutes at the PG position while Kobe Bryant became more of a playmaker. Despite going only 5-18 from the floor, Kobe dished out an eye-popping 14 assists on only 1 turnover, a performance he'll need to replicate against the Mavericks.
