Carmelo Anthony has 42 points with chance at Knicks franchise scoring record
There’s a lot of time left and Melo has a chance to break a New York record.
Carmelo Anthony is looking to leave that talk in the dumpster with his scoring game tonight, it appears. With nearly seven minutes left in the third quarter, Anthony had 40 points. The third quarter! You may not know this, but normally there are four quarters in basketball games.
He has six three-pointers (6-for-9, I might add) and is perfect in free-throw shooting on six attempts. And all this comes with zero of his points originating from within the paint. Miami may be without LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Mario Chalmers, but solid defensive fundamentals usually permeate even to the lower ranks. Rotations aren't as swift, but Shane Battier's defense ain't nothin' to sneeze at. Just look at this shot chart.
As the third quarter ended, Anthony only had two points since that seven-minute marker. The Knicks' franchise record for points in a single game belongs to Bernard King with 60, so there's still a chance he can get his name etched into the New York record books if he can get at least 18 points in the final quarter.
