Kevin Garnett injury: Hip problem won’t sideline Celtics big man

The Boston Celtics’ center will be able to play Friday after suffering an injury in Game 2 against the New York Knicks.

Kevin Garnett is "good to go" for Game 3 on Friday against the New York Knicks despite suffering an injury "very similar to having a hip pointer," Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers told MassLive.com.

Garnett appeared to be grabbing his waist area during the Celtics' 87-71 loss on Tuesday, but the big man will in all likelihood practice Thursday.

The 36-year-old entered the postseason banged up as is, but with Boston’s offense sputtering during the second halves of two losses to the Knicks to open the postseason, there’s little other option for the Celtics to score other than going through their All-Star big man.

In Game 2, Garnett started off well but finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds. His nine shot attempts were all he could get off after being hampered by foul trouble. Garnett played only 24 minutes in Game 2 after going 37 minutes in Game 1. To open the playoffs, Garnett also struggled with foul trouble and scored eight points on 4-for-12 shooting from the field in an 85-78 loss to New York.
