Russell Westbrook injury: Patrick Beverley just ‘tried to make a play on the ball’

With news spreading that Russell Westbrook will be out indefinitely for the Thunder, Patrick Beverley shared his thoughts on the injury.

With news that Russell Westbrook will undergo knee surgery after tearing the meniscus in his right knee, Patrick Beverley has given his thoughts on the play that led to the injury. Beverley said his steal attempt was a play that "a lot of people do" and that he "just tried to make a play on the ball," reports Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle.

Beverley has averaged 13.5 points, eight rebounds, and five assists through two games in the series. Beverley went on to say it was an “unfortunate situation” that Westbrook was injured on the play and called Westbrook a top-3 point guard, Feigen reports.

The Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder play Game 3 on Saturday, but the Thunder will be without Westbrook for an undetermined amount of time.

Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti wouldn't speculate on a timetable for Westbrook, while teammate Kevin Durant said he doesn't believe Westbrook should rush back from the injury to make sure he can return healthy.

Beverley’s decision to attempt a steal on an unsuspecting Westbrook may have just been a player trying to make a routine play on the ball, but the outcome could have severe consequences for Oklahoma City.
