Kyrie Irving injury: Cavaliers star will play Wednesday vs. Nets

The Cavs will have their star player back as they visit the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night.

USA TODAY Sports

Still working his way back from a sprained shoulder, Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving will play Wednesday night against the Brooklyn Nets, Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan reports. Head coach Byron Scott confirmed the news to reporters following the team's shootaround.

For the most part, this isn’t particularly shocking as Irving was expected to play having sat out the Cavs’ loss to Atlanta on Monday, but the team is still being cautious as he gets back to 100 percent.

Though he played quite well in his initial return from the injury last Sunday, the team held him out the following night as part of a plan to avoid having Irving play consecutive nights. The team has two more back-to-backs scheduled this season, but those are later this month.

Irving played quite well in his first game back from the injury last Sunday, finishing with 31 points and six assists in just 29 minutes against New Orleans, but the Cavs are being cautious with their star player so late in the season. The team struggled against the Hornets anyways, as Fear the Sword notes, so patience will likely play out here.
