Durant is averaging a league-leading 28.3 points per game, but Anthony has scored 40-plus points in three consecutive games on a combined 52-of-81 shooting from the field. Anthony has now moved his scoring average up to 28.1 points per game, setting up a thrilling race with Durant that could go down to the wire.
Anthony has averaged over 20 points per game in every season of his career, but has yet to win a scoring title. His 28.1 points per game average this year is his third highest scoring average in a single season behind the 2009-10 (28.2 points) and 2006-07 (28.9 points) seasons.
Anthony had 41 points on Friday in a 101-83 win over the Milwaukee Bucks to extend New York's winning streak to 11 games. Durant answered by scoring 34 points in a double-digit win over the Indiana Pacers to tie the Thunder with the San Antonio Spurs for first place in the Western Conference.
Should Durant hang on to win the scoring title this season, he would be the first to win four in a row since Michael Jordan in the 1980s and Wilt Chamberlin in the 1960s before that.
Durant and Anthony will square off against each other this Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on ABC.
