Blake Griffin injury: Clippers star out vs. Grizzlies

After turning in a gutsy first half and trying to give his team a lift by playing hurt, Blake Griffin’s high ankle sprain proved to be too much to overcome, as the Clips star headed to the locker room in the third quarter.

Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin left the Game 5 contest against the Memphis Grizzlies favoring his injured right ankle that he hurt earlier at practice.

After struggling through the first half and playing 13 minutes in obvious discomfort, the forward left for the locker room in the middle of the third quarter after playing six minutes in the frame.

According to the Clippers’ training staff (via TNT’s broadcast), he will not return to the game and was in too much pain to continue. Griffin was clearly not himself, and he was just 2-of-7 from the field with four points in 16 total minutes.

Los Angeles will now rely on Ryan Hollins and Ronny Turiaf to pick up the slack in Griffin's absence. Zach Randolph was taking advantage of Griffin's ineffectiveness, and has 15 points and nine rebounds through three frames. With Griffin hurt, the Clips' road to a fourth quarter comeback just got much tougher.
