Damian Lillard to be named NBA Rookie of the Year

Damian Lillard will become the fourth Blazer in history to win the award after averaging 19.0 points and leading the NBA in minutes played.

Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard is expected to be named the NBA's 2013 Rookie of the Year on Wednesday, according to Ben Golliver of Blazer's Edge.

Lillard was a force from day one, scoring 23 points and handing out 11 assists in his NBA debut against the Los Angeles Lakers. For the season, the 22-year-old averaged 19.0 points, 6.5 assists and 3.1 rebounds. He shot 42.9 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from three.

Not only was Lillard excellent all year long, but he was a model of durability. He participated in all 82 games and played 38.6 minutes per game, leading the league in minutes at year’s end.

Lillard swept the Western Conference Rookie of the Month awards and he also won the 2013 Skills Challenge at All-Star Weekend. All in all, it was a pretty eventful season for the youngster from Weber State, who will become the fourth Blazer to win the award to go along with Geoff Petrie, Sidney Wicks and Brandon Roy.
