Jim Boylan won’t return as Milwaukee Bucks head coach, according to report

The Milwaukee Bucks have cut ties with interim head coach Jim Boylan after a brief trip to the postseason. The team went just 22-28 under his watch.

The Milwaukee Bucks have cut ties with interim head coach Jim Boylan following their short trip to the postseason, the team announced Wednesday. The Bucks went 22-28 under Boylan before being swept in the first round of the playoffs by the defending champion Miami Heat.

Tapped as interim head coach in January after Milwaukee parted ways with Scott Skiles, who was in the midst of his fifth season with the team, Boylan never quite felt like a long-term solution. A longtime assistant under Skiles, Boylan filled a similar interim role for the Chicago Bulls a few years back when Skiles left that gig.

The Bucks initially responded well to Boylan's replacement of Skiles, winning eight of their first 11 games following the move, but things quickly unraveled from there. With the offense struggling to find a role for rental acquisition J.J. Redick, the Bucks went just 14-25 down the stretch even while competing for playoff seeding.

Having to settle for the eighth seed in the East, the Bucks got pummeled in the first round of the playoffs by the Miami Heat.

With Jennings, Redick and fellow guard Monta Ellis all potentially hitting free agency this summer, a coaching change could be the first of many significant moves Milwaukee makes this summer.
