Larry Drew will be the next head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, general manager John Hammond announced Friday. From the team’s official press release:
Bucks hire Larry Drew as new head coach
The former Hawks head coach reportedly signed three-year deal with a team option for a fourth. He has a career 128-102 record after three years in Atlanta.
“We are pleased to reach an agreement with Larry Drew to become head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks,” said Hammond. “After a thorough search and interview process, it was clear to us that Larry’s track record in Atlanta, along with his experience as an assistant coach and player, make him the right choice to lead our club. We look forward to what he will bring to this franchise and we welcome him and his family to Milwaukee.”

Yahoo!‘s Adrian Wojnarowski, who was the first to report the deal, reports that Drew signed a three-year contract that includes a team option for a fourth.
Reports surfaced earlier in the week that the Bucks had narrowed their coaching search down to three candidates, with Houston Rockets assistant Kelvin Sampson and Los Angeles Lakers assistant Steve Clifford joining Drew on their list of finalists. Once Clifford agreed to become coach of the Charlotte Bobcats, the Bucks had to choose between Sampson and Drew. They chose Drew.
This season, Drew led the Atlanta Hawks to a 44-38 record and the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta was eliminated in six games by the Indiana Pacers in the opening round of the playoffs. The Bucks are replacing interim coach Jim Boylan, who was fired after being swept by the Miami Heat in the first round.
Drew had served as head coach of the Hawks since 2010. He began his coaching career in the NBA as an assistant with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1992.
