It was a tumultuous season for Dwight Howard, but he got a bit of good news on Wednesday when he learned he would not need surgery on a torn labrum, according to Kevin Ding of the Orange County Register.

His future might be undetermined, but the Lakers’ center now knows he will not need surgery this offseason.

Howard battled health problems through most of the year and played through the shoulder injury as the Lakers were swept by the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
He averaged 17.1 points and a league-high 12.4 rebounds in his first season with Los Angeles, yet many wonder if Howard will return to the Lakers next season. He will become a free agent on July 1, and at the very least, not needing surgery could bode well for Howard as he considers offers.
Howard has already had to fight back from back surgery last year, and another surgery would have been a red flag on an otherwise impressive resume.
