After resigning from the position earlier this year, Coach K has agreed to return as Team USA head coach through the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

Duke Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski will return to USA Basketball as head coach through the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated reports. An announcement in the next 48 hours will make the move official.

Even though Coach K resigned from his position with Team USA just a few months ago, chairman Jerry Colangelo never really considered pursuing other candidates. Coming off a gold-medal victory during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Krzyzewski always felt like the ideal man for the job given his success rebuilding the program in recent years.

When hired in 2005, USA Basketball was coming off a stunning bronze-medal effort at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Krzyzewski worked with Colangelo to turn the entire organization around, bringing American basketball back to the top of the international world with back-to-back Olympic gold medals in Beijing and London.

Under Coach K, the Americans have a 62-1 record. The first event under this Olympic cycle will be a minicamp in late July, which the coach will use to put together his roster for the 2014 World Championships.
