The Phoenix Suns' search for a new head coach has ended. Jeff Hornacek agreed to terms to become the next head coach of the Suns for the next three years, according to a report from Paul Coro of the Arizona Central:

Jeff Hornacek agreed to terms with the Suns to become their new head coach and will sign the three-year contract by Monday morning.

The Suns quickly acted after impressive interviews from Hornacek, the popular former Suns player who has been an assistant coach for Utah. He was interviewed in Charlotte for its head coaching job and Philadelphia also was interested in him.

Hornacek, drafted by the Suns in 1986, will make his return to Phoenix in a suit after being traded as a player in 1992 when Phoenix acquired Charles Barkley from the Philadelphia 76ers.

Hornacek previously served as an assistant coach with the Utah Jazz since 2007. He has no previous experience as a head coach in the NBA.

The Suns finished the season with a 25-57 record and fired Alvin Gentry mid-season and appointed Lindsey Hunter as interim coach. The Suns have missed the playoffs for three straight seasons, last appearing in the Western Conference Finals in 2010. Phoenix has both the fifth and 30th picks in the 2013 NBA draft.

Second-year point guard Kendall Marshall has already taken to Twitter and said he is “excited” to work with Hornacek, though the Suns have not made an official announcement.
