Luol Deng sat out Game 6 of the Chicago Bulls' series against the Brooklyn Nets in the opening round of the NBA playoffs because of an illness. Deng took to Twitter Friday afternoon to call out critics who felt he should have played in the game and explained his medical situation. He also stated that if he is medically cleared he will play in Game 7 in Brooklyn on Saturday.
Luol Deng lashes out at critics after sitting out Game 6 with illness
The Bulls were without Luol Deng for Game 6 against the Nets. Deng took to Twitter to explain that it wasn’t the flu that kept him out of the game and was upset he was accused of doing so. Will he be ready to play in Game 7, and what really kept him out on Thursday?
Deng said he was “upset” that critics believed he missed Game 6 because of the flu and that he has played in “a lot” of games with the flu throughout his career. He clarified what his health problems actually were and revealed he was taken to the emergency room because of symptoms indicating he may have had meningitis.
In order to attempt to play on Thursday, Deng underwent a spinal tap, which he stated gave him the “worst” headache he has ever felt as well as making him weak. Deng concluded by saying he wanted his teammates and Bulls fans to know that he would never miss a game because of the flu, and will play as long as he is medically cleared.
Game 7 between the Nets and Bulls tips off Saturday at 8 p.m. ET. If Deng isn’t able to make play for the Bulls, it won’t be the flu that keeps him out of action.
