Phil Jackson told the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday that he has no interest in their head coaching spot vacated after the team decided against retaining coach P.J. Carlesimo, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

NBA.com's David Aldridge was first to report that Brooklyn and general manager Billy King had interest in the former Lakers and Bulls head coach, but it always appeared as an unlikely fit. Jackson has maintained that he wants a front-office position rather than a coaching role, should he return to the NBA. Last summer, Jackson's agent, Todd Musburger, told Aldridge that his client was interested in picking a head coaching candidate and holding an adviser role with an NBA team.

Jackson maintains that stance today, according to Wojnarowski.

Now that Brooklyn has its answer and swung and missed on their top target, it will continue forward with other prominent names on its list of potential head coaching hires.

A former player and assistant coach under Jackson with the Lakers seems to be atop the list. Sam Amick of USA Today Sports reported on Tuesday that current Indiana Pacers assistant coach Brian Shaw is a target of the Nets. Former Milwaukee Bucks coach Scott Skiles and Southern Methodist head coach Larry Brown are also possible candidates for the job.
