Lionel Hollins is out as the head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies just weeks after leading the team to the Western Conference Finals, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal. Hollins contract will not be renewed after the coach compiled a 196-155 record in his third turn as head coach in Memphis, starting in 2008-2009.

The news comes after weeks of rumors that Hollins and the Grizzlies’ front office weren’t seeing eye-to-eye. The Grizzlies had given Hollins permission to speak to other teams about head coaching openings, sparking speculation that the two sides could be heading toward a divorce. Hollins had restated his desire to stay in Memphis, but the team is now ready to move on without the man that led them to a 56-26 record this past season.
Hollins reached out to the Los Angeles Clippers about their coaching vacancy through his representatives, and an interview is reportedly scheduled for Wednesday. Hollins' name has also been tied to the Brooklyn Nets' coaching opening.
The Grizzlies have already spoken with former Nuggets coach George Karl.
