Grizzlies to interview Bulls assistant Ed Pinckney, according to report

Memphis has received permission to interview Chicago Bulls assistant Ed Pinckney, but will also look into George Karl, Alvin Gentry and current assistant Dave Joerger.

Chicago Bulls assistant coach Ed Pinckney will interview for the Grizzlies head coaching opening after Chicago granted Memphis permission, according to sources of CBS Sports' Ken Berger.

The 50-year-old has experience since 2010 under Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau, and he was previously an assistant for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Villanova Wildcats. He played in the NBA from 1985-1997.

The search for coach Lionel Hollins' replacement isn't whittled down yet. The team will also consider current assistant Dave Joerger -- once considered the favorite -- along with recently-relieved Denver Nuggets coach George Karl and former Phoenix Suns coach Alvin Gentry. The Grizzlies have spoken to Karl and Gentry, and Berger reports that they will bring both in for interviews in the coming days.

Hollins' contract runs through the end of the month, but Memphis told him Monday that they would not seek a contract extension. As such, they've allowed Hollins to speak with other teams, including the Los Angeles Clippers. He could also garner interest from the Nuggets.
